On Monday, 9th of February, 2026, the Executive Director of WACCE, Mr. Mutaru Mumuni Muqthar, paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco. The meeting sought to discuss potential areas of collaboration and partnership in the prevention of violent extremism and peacebuilding. The conversation especially focused on skills training as an essential component of efforts aimed at preventing and countering violent extremism and terrorism in the subregion. During the discussion, H.E Imane Ouaadil shared some prospective avenues for skills training and capacity building in governance and security. The ambassador commended the efforts of the Ghanaian government in maintaining peace and security despite the country’s proximity to the volatile Sahelian region. Mr Mutaru Mumuni expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for her warm welcome, and shared some perspectives on efforts that WACCE and the Embassy could collaborate on to curb the spread of violent extremism in Ghana and the broader subregion. A possible area for partnership that was discussed involves the training of youth in the 5 Northern Regions, given their proximity to the Sahelian countries of Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali, who have been affected by violent extremist narratives. This would primarily involve engaging the youth in vocational and entrepreneurial training. The team from WACCE that accompanied the Executive Director consisted of two Programme Officers and two Research Associate Interns.
We look forward to further strengthening our partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco and to working together to build safer and stronger communities in the region.
